from its Unicorn catalog along with records from multiple local repositories
into Primo, and has begun a major roll-out of Primo, which has been as
"DiscoverE". This presentation will review a year's worth of effort with
Primo, from selection to implementation, including usability testing, and
user feedback.
- Session 1B - How We Use Voyager to Catalog Archives Material - William Meng, St. Joseph's College
A 92-year-old College, with archives “dead” for the last 20 years; the 2008 Summer Project is focused on 1) preserving College publications, historical documents and images according to professional standards and 2) making them accessible online using Voyager 5.0.
After some major preparations, the project is step by step, from weeding and evaluating to preserving. The three categories to catalog: publications, documents and images. Achievements so far: all major college publications have been cataloged, 86 linear feet documents have been processed and are now kept in 37 documents boxes; 2,800 photographic images have been scanned, uploaded using flickr.com, cataloged in 112 folders now kept in 35 image boxes. All the records including images are made accessible online. Future considerations include how to encourage the participation of faculty members and library patrons and preservation of scrapbooks and other three-dimensional objects. We have challenges ahead: practical policies and systematic collecting.
A vision of a new College Archives in the context of Library 2.0.

Aleph and Voyager - Edward Corrado, Binghamton

This presentation describes what RSS feeds are and how various libraries are taking advantage of this technology with their Integrated Library System (ILS) to deliver constantly updated information to patrons. Uses include feeds new book and other acquisitions listings, feeds created for university portals, subject guides, and course pages within Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Blackboard, or Sakai. While this presentation will describe various ways to create RSS feeds from Aleph and Voyager, its primary focus will be on the different ways that RSS feeds can be used to help improve service to your patrons in the Web 2,0 environment. This presentation should be useful for the beginner and expert a like no matter which ILS is used.
